WHAT’S
THE BIG SHABBAT?
WHAT’S
THE BIG SHABBAT?
In 2014, Tel Aviv's White City Shabbat set the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD® for the largest Shabbat dinner in history with 2,226 guests. The following year, Berlin edged ahead with 2,322. As the second largest Jewish city on the planet, New York can do better.
On November 21, 2025, The Temple Emanu-El Streicker Centers will welcome 3,000 people of all ages to enjoy a delicious Shabbat meal, vibrant music, rich tradition . . . and claim the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD® for largest Shabbat dinner in history.
Whether you're cultural, spiritual, (un)affiliated, or just curious, join us for a historic night in New York City. Break bread, break the record, and come together as one proud community.

QUESTIONS?
How do I get to The BIG Shabbat?
North Javits is located at the corner of 11th Avenue and West 36th Street, accessible by the 7 train to Hudson Yards (just a 5-minute walk) or the A, C, E trains to 34th Street-Penn Station (a 10-minute walk). There are also plenty of nearby parking lots.
Is the venue accessible for wheelchairs/mobility devices?
North Javits is fully ADA compliant. If you have specific mobility needs or require assistance, please email us at info@theBIGshabbat.com in advance so we can ensure you have the best possible experience.
What will security be like?
Your safety is paramount and we've worked closely with the NYPD and the venue's security team to put comprehensive safeguards in place. Among the most visible will be a thorough screening process pre-entry and security personnel stationed throughout.
What’s required of me to help break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD®?
You must check in by 6:30 PM and remain physically present at the dinner until 8:30 PM to be counted toward the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD®.
Will there be a Shabbat service I can attend before the event?
For those who want to attend a traditional service before the event, Hudson Yards Synagogue (Orthodox), formerly known as West Side Jewish Center, at 347 W 34th St., will offer a traditional minyan. After the service, the group will walk together to The BIG Shabbat.
Is The BIG Shabbat appropriate for kids?
Yes! People of all ages are welcome, and we'll have kids’ activities and kid-friendly menu options. But note that to break the record, every attendee must participate in the dinner until 8:30 PM. Please be sure that your children are up for this.
Will The BIG Shabbat be kosher?
A festive, delicious, certified Kosher (RcBc), vegetarian dairy meal will be served.
I have dietary restrictions, how will The BIG Shabbat handle this?
Vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options will be available throughout the evening. With 3,000 guests, we aren't able to handle individual requests and cannot guarantee against cross-contamination since foods may come into contact with allergens during prep and service. If you have severe allergies, you will want to make sure you are comfortable with these guidelines before you commit to the event.
I’m Shomer Shabbat– can I join The BIG Shabbat?
All are welcome but note that there will be live music and amplified sound.
If I'm not Jewish, can I still attend The BIG Shabbat?
Absolutely! As a celebration of community, culture, and breaking records together, The BIG SHABBAT welcomes people of all backgrounds. We're happy to explain any traditions and customs throughout the evening.
Can media attend or cover the event?
Media coverage must be pre-approved and coordinated in advance. For media requests, please email us at info@theBIGshabbat.com with your outlet information, ideal coverage plans and crew details.
